About Spencer
Hello, I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LH 61616098) in the state of Washington and a NOLS certified Wilderness First Responder. I have a deep love for the outdoors and a passion for coming alongside folks who wish to grow, heal, and mature. I’m also a husband, father, musician, coffee snob, rock climber, mountaineer, and someone who is a bit too competitive when it comes to board games. In short, I’m a curious person with varied interests and I believe childlike awe and wonder is core to our healing and wellness.
I believe therapy is a process of sojourning together toward wholeness and restoration: think of that as our summit. Facing trauma, abuse, depression, anxiety, addiction, grief, etc. can feel like entering a wilderness. The path is treacherous and unknown; it takes skill to navigate. There are many who hire mountain guides to climb Mt. Rainier. The guides know the mountain well: how to navigate its dangers, what gear to bring, what skills must be taught, and most importantly, when to retreat and attempt the summit another day.
The landscape of the mountain presents its own wilderness as does the terrain of the human heart, mind, and spirit. As a therapist, I think of myself as a guide of the soul and psyche. I’m here to help you, equip you, and teach you the skills you need to walk the wilderness that’s within and around you. In the end, I believe there is a narrow path through all that is wild and untamed that leads back to joy, awe, and wonder. I’d love to come alongside you on this journey.
Additionally, I’m a proud Penn State grad, where I received my Bachelors Degree in Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology. After college, I was honored to work as full-time campus ministry staff with the CCO (Coalition for Christian Outreach) at Penn State Abington. In time, I decided to pursue my Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology with a Concentration in Trauma and Abuse; which I received from the Seattle School of Theology & Psychology. I’ve also completed certificate level I & II in Narrative Focused Trauma Care through The Allender Center at The Seattle School.
